We all experience difficulties at some points in our lives: problems with relationships, feelings of anxiety about work or home, sexual concerns, ongoing sadness or depression, problems with alcohol or drugs, or feelings of anger or panic. Counselling and psychotherapy aim to help the client to work towards living more satisfyingly and resourcefully. With the skilled use of the therapeutic relationship, the therapist facilitates self-reflection and self-knowledge, working through emotional problems, acceptance, and growth.
The client is supported in making optimal use of their personal resources to enable them to cope with crisis, inner conflict, improving relationships and making small and big decisions. At times there may be severe emotional problems for which long term psychotherapy may be the only solution.
Both counselling and psychotherapy may work alongside or as an alternative to medication.
