Short bio
Zia is a global trainer in the fields of conflict resolution and educational development. He has integrated his professional skills as a broadcast journalist and humanities teacher to create dynamic methodologies of transforming cultural and political stories within communities. He has coached leaders across the Middle East, and trained younger professionals into leadership roles in countries such as Afghanistan, Jordan and Argentina. Zia is an academic tutor and researcher investigating the relationship between ritual and the human body and how this relationship can be applied constructively to transform ideologically driven violence. He is actively involved in mentoring young male offenders in their journey of breaking the cycle of violence and incarceration. InJuly 2015 Zia has been ordained as an Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Counsellor.
Zia’s passions are the performing arts and working with younger people, and he combines this by designing rite of passage programmes and courses of learning for young people, using dance, drama and myth. His great loves are performing on stage, telling stories by a roaring fire, and every so often to wander the desert.
