Over the past decade psychosexual therapy (often referred to as clinical sexology) has emerged as a discipline in its own right, working with distinct competencies, a different role for the therapist, its own terminologies and definitions, and its own theoretical body.
This stand-alone course aims to provide participants with an integrated framework combining the psychosocial and cultural aspects of sex therapy with the physiological underpinnings of sexual medicine in managing a wide variety of sexual concerns. The curriculum is designed to prepare established professionals in applying a multidisciplinary approach to the knowledge and understanding of sexual function, identity, and expression.
A key strength of the programme is the integration of therapeutic skills with both individuals and dual intimate systems, with medical concepts and treatment approaches to achieve the best outcomes for working with sexual issues. The programme is designed for healthcare professionals seeking to expand their sexual medicine and counselling practices and for psychotherapists to increase their understanding of the medical foundations.
We explore ways of effectively collaborating with medical professionals to coordinate and identify strategies, undertake assessments, become familiar with protocols, and to allow for onward referral as appropriate.
